Around 40 people met up on Saturday 26th October to emjoy soup, dessert and good company and, above all, to raise much needed funds for Rotary's 'End Polio Now' campaign.
'End Polio Now' was set up by Rotary International in the 1980s to try and rid the world of this debiltating disease. Back then there were over 1,000 cases every day but thanks to Rotary's efforts and in particular the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation who have double matched Rotary's fundraising for many years, the number of cases per year worldwide is now less than 100 with just two countries still experiencing cases of wild polio.
There was a choice of three soups and three desserts for attendees at the lunch to enjoy, expertly prepared by our very own 'kitchen angels', and the conversation flowed.
After the meal, there was a well-supported raffle with a number of excellent prizes, including artisan chocolate, hampers and beautry products, to be won. The draw was kicked off by our very own District Governor Debbie Dunford, and prizes were gratefully accepted by the lucky winners.
Over £800 was raised on the day for the charity, which will go a long way in helping those remaining at risk of the disease.
