After all the lovely weather of Carnival week the week before, it was disappointing to see a weather forcast for the Community Fête that was less than ideal.
Nevertheless, Swanage & Purbeck Rotary refused to let a bit of weather disrupt their plans, so following a slight rethink on the field layout, the fête went ahead as planned on Thursday 8th August. Most of the usual activities were there, and many people turned up to enjoy the fare on offer.
Music was provided by the AllSort'd Choir, Andrew Cannon and the Ukelele Band and we are indebted to them all for percevering in the less than ideal conditions!
As well as the usual refreshment tent, we had a second tent filled with produce from the Greengage Project and Prospect, and both of the main tents provided suitable respite from the strong wind and rain that descended on the event during the morning.
The raffle, which had already achieved sales before the event, continued to sell tickets on the day and the winners of the many prizes were drawn during the afternoon.
Sadly the weather did eventually beat us and we were forced to cut the fête short at around 2pm. We are extremely grateful to everyone who did brave the conditions to attend, as well as the stallholders who did still come. The small army of volunteers from Rotary, the Harmans Cross Village Hall team and Swanage Cricket Club really earned their crust in taking down the gazebos and other tents at the end.
Although not being able to raise as many funds as in previous years, we will still have achieved some fundraising which will go towards the many local good causes in our area.
