Swanage and Purbeck Rotary Club’s Summer Fair was held on 9th August at Sandpits Field in Swanage and was a great success. The annual event combines a traditional summer fete with a craft fair and provided a great day out for all the family. As the major fundraising event for the year the Rotary club rely on the event to support their local and international charity commitments.
“With the summer we have had we were really hoping for good weather” said Rotary President David Pike. “Fortunately we got it and the whole community pulled together to make it a great success”. Several Purbeck organisations were involved in staging the fair and David expressed his gratitude on behalf of the club to all those who contributed on the day.
The success of the event will go a long way to enable the club to fulfil its plans for the year. Particular focus continues to be on supporting local causes such as Julia’s House Children’s Hospice and “Kids Out” events for young people with learning and behavioural difficulties. In addition the club will sponsor young people from Purbeck to participate in the London Sailing Project to build life skills. It will also enable the club to support international projects such as commitment to supply 20 Aquaboxes from Purbeck which provide clean drinking water to disaster victims.
The Rotary club was hoping to equal last year’s magnificent total raised on the day. “Whilst this year’s figure is still to be finalized” said David, “at least our Treasurer is smiling, which is a good sign”
