MARK CLEGG

Mark, you became a Rotarian when you lived in Stoke, joining the Rotary Club of Stoke-on-Trent where you became Club President.

You moved from Stoke to the Isle of Wight and transferred your Rotary membership  joining Ryde Rotary Club where you became a popular member involved in the Club’s day to day activities, none more so than becoming Club President in the 2011 to 2012 Rotary year.

While being supportive of the Club’s charitable activities one in particular struck a real cord within you - John’s Club, a user led charity that supports people with disabilities.

Over a period of time Ryde Rotary Club became involved with them, giving them financial support, you went further by using your vocational skills as a motor engineer, providing unpaid labour to service and maintain their fleet of vehicles in your workshop.

It was during this vocational support that you identified that two of their vehicles had reached the end of their life as some vital parts they needed were obsolete.

John’s Club had a real need for two replacement vehicles.

The Club and some of its member’s donations allowed the first minibus to be purchased and sign written.

Through the Foundation Committee a four way matching grant project was completed, it used a matching grant from our District and a matching grant from our French twinned Club of Chateau du Loir et Chartre sur le Loir and a matching grant from their District to purchase the second minibus and get it sign written, you were personally involved with the repair and adaptation of this vehicle fitting a roof rack and electric side step.

The Club membership was saddened when you stood down earlier this year, needless to say you are most welcome to rejoin should you so wish.

To this day you continue to use your vocational skills free of charge to maintain all of John’s Club fleet.

This demonstrates that you Mark Clegg represent Rotary ideals to the full and I am pleased to present you with this well deserved Paul Harris Fellow award.
