Club Bulletin May 2015

Well it’s done. All the pundits were wrong. No hung parliament. Carry on Dave and passports at the ready for anyone planning to visit Scotland! I won’t say anymore as Rotary is a non political organisation.

Our elections have also taken place at the AGM on 21 April and I wish all those returning to office, and those newly elected, a successful 2015-16.

 Past events

We again marshalled 500 teenagers at the S.N.A.P. dance on 27 February. S.N.A.P. (Say No and Phone) is the very worthwhile police initiative to keep youngsters off the streets and away from drugs and alcohol.

The St. George’s School road safety project, that we have funded, was completed in March providing a road layout on which the pupils can ride their bikes in a safe environment.

On 10 May it was Walk the Wight and our marshalling duties in support of the Earl Mountbatten Hospice’s major annual fundraiser.

These are all excellent examples of Rotary involvement in the local community.

 Future events

We continue to have a good and varied selection of speakers, and some outside activities for our entertainment over the next Rotary year.

Plans for the Father’s Day triathlon event from Waterside Pool on Sunday 21 June are progressing well. Good promotion, as ever, will be vital to the success of the event as will the support of all club members and favourable weather.

Only five weeks later, on the weekend of 25 & 26 July, we have Party on the Green 2015.  We have booked a good selection of entertainment, again on a family fun theme. Two warm, dry, but not too sunny, days would give us the best chance of attracting the crowds and raising valuable funds. This is another event that will rely on the incredible generosity of our members in terms of time.
