Clocks forward so it must be summer. What better time to start cutting back on the calories and stepping up the exercise to get in shape for the next holiday. It doesn't have to be one big effort. As Clive Woodward said of the team before he led England to win the rugby world cup I don't want to improve one thing 100%, I want to improve one hundred things by 1%.
For most of us just consuming 200 calories per day less than we burn up would result in losing a stone in one year. 200 calories is A pint of beer or 2 biscuits and a small piece of cheese. Add some light exercise e.g. a few walks and that weight loss could become two stone in a year. Look better, feel better and reduce the burden on the NHS. Once you get into the mindset it becomes a way of life and no, it isn't boring!
Past events
The Club's 90th Charter Night at the Royal Victoria Yacht Club on Saturday 28 February was a lovely evening commemorating a very special event and it was good to see President Karin and some of her colleagues from Chateau.
The annual Quiz took place at Wootton Community Centre on 13 March and again there was a good turn out with 18 teams helping to raise a net £850 for Foundation. Our inimitable Quizmaster John did need some persuading that with 20 teams in the Football Premier League that equated to 38 games each in the season. Bless.
Future events
Thanks to Ken's efforts we have had a varied selection of speakers over the last Rotary year, and soon to be elected SVP Alan has already got speakers and other activities planned up to December. Please remind the speakers to keep it short guys!
The Father's Day triathlon event from Waterside Pool is on Sunday 21 June and 50% of funds raised will go to Prostate Cancer research, 25% to Waterside Pool and 25% to Ryde Rotary charities. Please ensure that this date is in your diary as we will need good club support for marshalling the cycle route and monitoring the swan boats on the Canoe Lake and the swimming in the pool. Might also be a bar and barbeque still to be discussed with Waterside management.
Also please diarise the weekend of 25/26 July when Party on the Green 2015 will wow the crowds with a rich array of entertainment and even richer cakes at the tea tent. This is another labour intensive event and we will need to, at least, match last year's commitment in terms of numbers.
Watch out for next month's election special.
