Ryde Rotary Club Foundation activities 2010 2011

Foundation activities 2010 2011

Over the past Rotary year our Club has donated £1300-00 to the Polio Eradication Campaign and £2200-00 to the Annual Programmes Fund.

At the beginning of the last Rotary year letters of approach to all local schools promoting Rotary's 'Thanks for Life End Polio Now' campaign. 14 schools agreed and received a power point presentation to their School assemblies. The presentations were personalised to appeal to the differing ages of the audience. During the presentation the children were informed how Polio affects people, about the Rotary organisation and its pledge to eradicate Polio, how the numbers of new cases are being dramatically reduced through immunisation and Rotary's latest $220 million challenge. The presentations were well received and may Schools held a question and answer session after the presentation. All the schools that received the presentation agreed to hold fundraising events for the 'End Polio Now' campaign. I am making second visits to schools to receive moneys raised and to explain how the moneys raised are being spent by playing the Konnie Huq DVD to School assemblies. To encourage further fundraising for the polio appeal, and to express the club's gratitude, Ryde Club members purchased 102 vouchers for a game of ten pin bowling plus a basket meal and soft drink, and these were distributed to the schools. Rotary has enjoyed some excellent, local publicity in the County Press highlighting our efforts.
