Ryde Academy

Ryde Rotary Club is developing links with Ryde Academy.

Starting in the 2012 year we are working with the school by supplying Members to assist in the Duo reading scheme. Rotary members who particapate have an induction meeting with the school, they complete an enhanced CRB disclosure and within a few weeks they supply the school with the time they wish to offer to the school.The members basically sit and listen to the children reading aloud to them on a 1 to 1 basis.

In May 2012 an opportunity arose this summer for one student of the school to attend a 4 week course at the University of Siena near Florence to study "COURSE ORDINARY OF LANGUAGE AND ITALIAN CULTURE" The course is offered with an additional 1 week holiday with a host Rotarian family in the area. The Travel and course would be paid for by Rotary. Although the opportunity arose late in the day it is hoped that a student can take up this wonderful offer.

As Ryde Academy has a photography department and it is hoped that there could be the chance to get students to enter one of Rotarys photographic competitions.

There are also chances for other links to be made with the school including the very popular mock interviews held at other Isle of Wight Schools.
