PORTSMOUTH NORTH ROTARY ORGANISE YOUTH SPEAKS 2010
Each year students from across Great Britain and Ireland take part in the Rotary GB&I organized Youth Speaks competition. The local and then regional events culminate in the Rotary GB&I final, with the winner taking the accolade of Rotary GB&I Youth Speaks champions.
The competition aims to offer young people:
Teams are entered come from schools, colleges, youth training schemes or youth groups and comprise three members: the chairman, the speaker and the proposer of the vote of thanks. No entrant may be a member of more than one team. No team may participate more than once in a qualifying round. The event is run for 2 age categories:
Following a preliminary rounds, Portsmouth North Rotary Club staged the final for the Rotary District 1110 - Group 7 heats at the Admiral Lord Nelson School on Thursday 18 February 2010. The event saw 3 Intermediate and 4 Senior teams speaking on a wide range of well chosen and researched subjects delivered with passion and conviction.. The judges were Mr Tim Austin (Chairman), Mr Simon Cattermole (Headmaster Stamshaw Junior School) and The Reverend Tom Kennar (Team Leader St Marks Church North End).
In his summing up the Chairman mentioned several times the enthusiastic presentation and delivery of all teams. He concluded that again high standards had been achieved and selecting a winner was as challenging as ever. The eventual winners were:
Intermediate competition:
City of Portsmouth Boys School , subject "Your ought to have red hair".
Senior competition:
Brune Park School subject "Teenage Obsessions".

There were also Intermediate runners up certificates for Crookhorn College of Technology "The Environment" and West Hill Park School.
Senior Runners up Certificates were presented to City of Portsmouth Boys school "The Power of Gentle Subversion" Crookhorn College of Technology "Computer Games" and Wykham House School "Manners are a lost Art"
