President Hassan Mejie has sent us copies of local newspaper articles celebrating the declaration of a Polio Free India after 3 years without a polio case.
Three members of our club and three of the Inner Wheel Club of Jersey have visited Chandigarh and participated in National Immunisation Days (NIDs). These are Tony and Maggie Allchurch, John and Doreen Reed and Allan and Lynn Smith. It was incredibly rewarding participating in just one of these NIDs and so good to hear that after the effort of all these years success can be declared at last.
On one of Tony Allchurch's two trips he was accompanied by Jersey's own Peace Fellow, Rich Wainwright, whose photgraphic record of their visit was used in numerous World Heath Organisation and Rotary publications.
Note in the cover photograph Hassan Mejie is the Rotarian with the white beard. He hosted Tony Allchurch on his visit in 2010. His daughter Simran Mejie studied Peace and Conflict Resolution at King's College London and whilst there joined us for the student Peace Seminar at Jersey College for Girls in 2012.
