Annan & District Rotarians spent an enlightening session with Archie Dryburgh, who took members through a defibrillator awareness session at their meeting at Solway Lodge, Gretna on 13 February 2024.
These life saving devices are becoming a familiar sight in our towns and viallges, so understanding their application and use is becoming more important for us all. Archie explained a defibrillator is a device that gives a shock to the heart to stop fibrillation. Response rates can be as high as 70% when a maintained defibrillator is used on a patient suffering a sudden cardiac arrest. This is a massive increase from around 7-12% when CPR is given on its own.
Members were able to follow the simple instructions given by the machine, making it easy to use by individuals without medical training.
Archie was thanked by everyone for providing a really interesting insight into this field of emergency care that is becoming increasingly available in so many community spaces.
