I am Bertha Mary Ndhlovu, a recipient of the Global Grant Rotary scholarship at the University of Reading. I am the first Malawian to be awarded the Rotary Scholarship which allowed me to fulfil my dream of studying a Master of Science in Environment, Climate Change and Development.  Through the scholarship, I have attained a deeper understanding of climate change issues, I am equipped with necessary skills to address climate change challenges faced by developing nations like Malawi.

I have attained quick learning abilities and multi-tasking skills having had to balance school and part-time work in a totally different field of hospitality.

As a Rotary scholar for the year 2023/2024 I had the privilege to interact and learn from my fellow scholars, host club and District host members. I attended several fun-filled events. It was a great pleasure to share experiences about my country, area of study and future plans.

I made a presentation in celebration of international women's day on 8th March 2024

Overall, I appreciated the British culture and food experience. As the end of my Rotarian scholar journey draws near, I cherish the networking opportunities and anticipate great career opportunities ahead. A big thank you to my host club, the Rotary Club of Wokingham for hosting me and to Rotary in the Thames Valley for this life-changing opportunity.
