Young Carers try Sailing
Our Rotary Club sponsored and arranged a day’s sailing at Bury Lakes Young Mariners for 2 groups of 15 Young Carers from Aylesbury and Wycombe. The weather was very warm and although there was not much wind, it was still a great day on the water. The 10-11 year old Young Carers had no previous experience of sailing but were soon at ease with being afloat. Rotary members provided a sumptuous BBQ lunch for the children including pizzas, burgers, sausages, fruit pies and water melon with an ice cream to end the day.
These days were really enjoyed by the Young Carers, who care for a family member who is disabled or suffers a long-term debilitating illness. The families are often underprivileged and these days are likely to be one of the few times they have a chance to get some respite from their family circumstances. Our Rotary Club is proud to provide such an opportunity for these children to enjoy themselves with their peers, and to experience a new skill.
