We hope that the Club’s first “Risborough Rotary Ramble”, on the 7th of July, will be the first of what will become an annual event. The many months of planning and preparation ensured that every eventuality was catered for. However, there was nothing we could do about the weather. Sunday the 7th turned out to be unseasonably cold, windy and wet. Nevertheless, a hardy group of walkers braved the weather and the 20+mile long walk, and a good number of walkers and their dogs survived the shorter 6-mile Ramble.
Around 30 Club members volunteered their help manning the Start/Finish base at Wades Park and the 2 staging bases at Longwick and Lacey Green Village Halls. Additionally, 13 members’ wives/partners provided a delicious range of cakes and biscuits and hot drinks at all three locations. Additionally, we were supported at Wades Park by 2 NHS First Aid Responders “just in case”, and a representative from SCANNAPPEAL, our primary charity.
We are extremely grateful to Beechdean Ice Cream and Wainwright & Sons Shoes for their very generous sponsorship, and to Princes Risborough Town Council for their help. Despite the weather the event raised a good amount of money which we are delighted to be able to donate to SCANNAPPEAL and local charities.
