A chance meeting between Richard Stevenson and a member of the North West Chilterns Community Board has resulted in the installation of an all-weather surface at Monks Risborough School.
Climbing equipment at the school had been installed on grass. This prevented its use when either too wet or too dry.
The meeting established funds may be available from The Community Board to help towards the installation of an All– weather surface.
The school obtained quotes for the work and to cut a long story short applied for part funding with the balance donated by Rotary and the school.
Unfortunately, the cost of materials rose over the summer and the total cost increased by £5,000, however the school provided extra funding to ensure the job was completed just after half term.
The contractors used recycled tyres in order to create the cushion surface which now permits equipment use all year round. They also treated the wooden structure with marine varnish to prolong its life even longer.
An official opening is planned for later in the year.
