Princes Risborough Rotary Club has been closely involved with several initiatives in support of the people of Ukraine, in particular, those who are seeking a new home in the UK.
In April of this year, members of the club met with local ladies who were setting up a group to help refugees fleeing from the conflict in their home country. As a result, a number of donations have been made, fundraising activities initiated, including securing a donation from Rotary International of £1,500.
The local group formed a charity called "Ukraine2Chilterns" and now over 180 individuals have been helped to secure accommodation here, including support with visa applications and travel arrangements.
So far, Princes Risborough Rotary Club has donated over £8,700 to support U2C and one of our past presidents has joined the charity as a trustee.
A recent event where proceeds go towards U2C was a barn dance held after the Monks Risborough Horticultural Society annual show, which raised over £1,000, and at which we hosted 37 Ukrainians as our guests.
Fundraising is ongoing, including a sponsored parachute jump, and the money is used for everything from shoes to school uniforms to bus fares and support with job applications.
