Our monthly ramble, on a very hot day, started at the Chequers in Fingest

Marlow Rotary Club rambles on

We did our July ramble in very hot weather, starting at the Chequers pub in Fingest. We took Chequers Lane north out of the village, past Manor Farm where they stage operas during the summer months. Soon we turned off the road to the left and into the relative cool of woodland, where there were many signs of ash die-back.

Our ascending path would have brought us to the windmill at Turville and eventually to Ibstone. But the day was too hot and we reversed our route, preferring a shaded table in the garden of the pub.

We were joined for lunch by Mike Hardy, a member of the Club, who organises these monthly rambles but had to duck out of this one following eye surgery. A member’s wife was kind enough to drive him. We had an excellent lunch – copious portions of very well prepared and cooked food – and delightful service.

So here is the purpose of this rambling post. No matter where in the world you live, if you are thinking about what to do in early retirement and want to have a good social life as well as giving something back to society, have a look at joining your local Rotary club.
