Best Potential Citizen Award

Rotary Club of Marlow was delighted to to be part of Great Marlow School’s Celebration of Success by once again presenting the Lance Slater Memorial Award for Best Potential Citizen.

This year the award went to Zoe Nicholls and Lewis Balbini. Normally only one award is made but in the words of the senior judge Mike Jones “All the candidates were exemplary and showed the Rotary ideals of Service before Self. After much debate it was decided that both Zoe and Lewis should be given awards for their outstanding work in the community. Zoe for her work with Marlow Meals and Lewis for his work with Bourne End Community Association”.

The Rotary Club of Marlow has been presenting The Best Potential Citizen Award for nearly 50 years including in 1978 when the award went to Sir Steve Redgrave who said at the time that it gave him a massive boost to his self-belief. In 2023 it was named the Lance Slater Award in memory of Lance Slater, a Rotarian who had organised the event for most of this time. The awards were presented to the winners by Lance’s widow Pauline Slater and the President of the Rotary Club of Marlow, Reg Markham.

Being associated with Great Marlow School has been inspirational for the club’s members who have been actively involved. The enthusiasm and talent of the students and the dedication of the staff are a credit to the school.
