The team of over 45 volunteers split up into teams working across the area of the cleanup, including supported by a boat from Thames Request Service, who also supported one of two surveys of the river as part of a ‘plastic blitz’ campaign by the environmental group Thames21.
The event was supported by a range of groups facilitating activities or lending equipment including Shiplake College, Reading Blue Coats School, the street litter clean up group (WASP), Wokingham Borough Council, Surfers Against Sewage, and Woodley Town Council.
Peter Lewis, Loddon Vale Rotary Club President said “It has been wonderful to see so many people out today to support this important event to clean up our stretch of the Thames. This is part of a series of similar events along the full length of the Thames supported by over 50 Rotary Clubs. We would be more than pleased to hear from anyone interested in getting involved with Rotary and our events throughout the year"
