Rotary Club of Gerrards Cross and Chalfont St Peter
Following the lifting of Covid restrictions, the Rotary Club of Gerrards Cross and Chalfont St Peter was able to hold its first Charity Dinner in over 2 years. The local Charity chosen was the South Bucks Riding for the Disabled. The guest speaker was the MP for Beaconsfield, Joy Morrissey
The President opened proceedings by presenting a cheque to local resident Professor Marcia Hall in aid of her charity, Cancer Treatment and Research Trust. Professor Hall is one of the UK’s leading clinicians in research into gynaecological cancers.
Di Redfern, who is responsible for the creation and development of the South Bucks Riding for the Disabled, then gave a short talk on the major benefits to disabled children ( and adults) from learning to ride. Like all charities, Riding for the Disabled suffered from much reduced income during the pandemic and was delighted to be the recipient of the proceeds of the evening’s activities. A sum of up to £2000 is anticipated.
In her speech, MP Joy Morrissey expressed her admiration and support for the SB Riding for the Disabled and also praised Rotary for their altruistic service to the local community. She discussed various local issues with guests as well as stating her belief that MP’s did not have time to do a second job!
The President, in closing proceedings, thanked Di and Joy, and Joy’s PA Aleksandra, for their vital work on behalf of the community. He also thanked the prime organiser of the event, Rotarian Donna Foxwell, for her exceptional efforts in making the event such a success.
A surprise presentation of a bouquet of flowers was then made by the President to Rotarian Desmond and Ann Hall on their 60th Wedding Anniversary.
