The Guest Speaker was Roger McStravick, golf historian and writer, who spoke in conversation with Eric Brown. As a child golf was Roger's passion; he had a handicap of 5 by the age of fifteen and his hero was Peter Alliss. He studied Golf Course Architecture at Heriot-Watt then went on to jobs with Trust House Forte, the BBC, Visit Scotland where he took journalists to golf courses and hotels, then became editor of ‘Through the Green’ Magazine. His award-winning career as a writer has produced many books. Among them ‘St Andrews in the Footsteps of Old Tom Morris’ won both the USGA Herbert Warren Wind Book Award and the British Golf Collectors Society Murdoch Medal; ’St Andrews -The Road War Papers' won the USGA HWW Book Award for the second time for the 2020 book of the year. Roger co-wrote his latest book 'Allan Robertson of St Andrews, The King of Clubs, 1815-1859’, with the late Bill Williams, telling the life story of the champion golfer who held the title for an incredible 19 years. Roger's next book will feature Freddie Tait, the 'happy warrior’. A series of questions followed from the many members who are keen golfers. Colin Brown gave the vote of thanks.
