The Speaker was Club member the Rev. Ian Hamilton who gave an entertaining account of his life and memories through his collection of paper-weights. Each paper-weight reminded him of events and anecdotes from different times and places. There were paper-weights from around the world -Niagara Falls, Princeton, the Arc de Triomphe, Washington DC and New York (the Stock Exchange, the Statue of Liberty, Radio City), Salzburg. From closer to home there was Norwich Catherdaral, Jersey, the Royal Yacht Brittania, the Craw’s Nest Hotel in Anstruther (remember the fish and chips?) and many more. Special memories came from Nairn Old Parish Church where Ian was minister for over 25 years (its Strachan windows and association with the Whitelaw family), from his time at Glasgow University. Saving the ‘best till last’ Ian explained how, following the death of his grandmother he was given his grandfather’s brass name plate which he had mounted on a beautiful wooden plaque, a special treasure. This was an humorous and touching trip down memory lane much enjoyed by those present. Michael Carslaw gave the vote of thanks.
