It is always helpful for members to understand more about new members soon after they join the Club.
The Speaker was newest member of the Club, Sue Hill, giving her vocational presentation. She came as a student to St Andrews University in 1978 studying Medieval History, followed by a post graduate secretarial course which included employment law, accounting and statistics, and a PGCE course at Moray House. She worked for the Design Council of Scotland from 1988-1990 as an editorial assistant, working on the new curriculum for 5-14 year-olds, completing a project at a Livingston Primary School on how to implement Design and Technology into the curriculum. From 1990-2000 Sue was Head of Publishing for the Scottish Scottish Climate Change Committee, setting up a team of designers, editors and proof-readers, before deciding to go freelance in 2004 and work from home. Poet Gordon Jarvie wrote a poem for Sue as she was leaving -‘It’s always later than we think’. Various projects followed including work for the SQA, Scottish Opera, Royal Highland Educational Trust, the National Library of Scotland. In 2015 Sue was appointed Publications Officer (People) for the Development Office in the University of St Andrews, a post she held for 10 years describing them as '‘the happiest years of my personal and professional life’. She has recently retired and joined the Rotary Club of St Andrews……… Ann Baird gave the vote of thanks.
