Guest speakers
were Marie Paterson and Andrew Stuart from the St Andrews Business
Club. They spoke about the welcoming nature and informality of the Club,
the range of events offered and opportunities for networking to learn
how to run a business more successfully. Andrew described his
career-path from St Andrews University into outdoor education, then
teaching (Head Teacher at Kilgraston School) and now a financial
advisor. The St Andrews Business Club has become an important of his
business; he named three areas in which it can help: education (learning
how to improve a business), networking and support. Marie explained she
started her own business as a well-being trainer six years ago and
found friends and associates in the Business Club. She gave a brief
history of the club: founded in 1950 as a meeting place for business and
professional men, though it was agreed that women might become members! and now they have…… George Bruce was the first president. Guest speakers
have included Menzies Campbell, Michael Bonallack, A B Paterson, Donald
Finlay. Post-covid events suffered, but today they are flourishing with
some 65 members. Rotarians were invited to join some of their events:
putting, golf, talks, a monthly walk on the West Sands, all of which
allow time for discussion and networking. A lively question session
followed. Bangarpet Krishnaswarmy gave the vote of thanks.
