This week’s meeting saw the disbursement to charities of some of the funds
raised by the Club during the year. Representatives of the chosen
organisations were guests for lunch and thanked the Club for the
donations made, saying how much the Club’s support was appreciated and
would be put to good use. Organisations and their representatives were
Jerry Beaulier for Beach Wheelchairs, Olav Darge for Madras College,
Hannah Fergague for the Thistle Foundation, Morag Hamilton for The Wave
Project, John Helliwell for Mary’s Meals, Wilber Sabiiti for the King’s Norton Foundation, and Doug Stephen for Friends of Craigtoun. Special
guests, recognised for their outstanding support to the Club over the
year, were Louise Turner from Rufflets Hotel and Jonnie Adamson of
chartered accountants Henderson Black. As
already reported in these pages, many other charities have received
recent support from the Rotary Club of St Andrews, including Alzheimer
Scotland, Byre Youth & Community Arts, CHAS, The Cosmos Centre,
Families First, Home Start and TCCL. Funds have also been sent abroad,
to Ukraine and following the floods in Pakistan and the earthquake in
Syria and Turkey
