Members gathered in their usual weekly venue, the New Golf Club, for an excellent Christmas lunch. Guests included a dozen University of St Andrews students from abroad, reinstating a tradition, interrupted by the pandemic, that is almost as old as the Rotary Club itself. Entertainment was provided by Rev. Ian Hamilton, at the piano, and Jill Craig, on clarinet, and by Ann Baird, who led the singing of Christmas carols and songs. Jill was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship, named for the founder of Rotary, for her many contributions to Rotary, including numerous concerts that have raised large sums for charity: most recently the StAFCO Concert on St Andrew’s Day, which, thanks to a generous public and the programme’s sponsors, allowed St Andrews Rotary Club to donate £700 each to Families First and Home-Start. The last activity of the calendar year will be on Friday 23 December when members will be helping shoppers with their packing at Marks & Spencer. Weekly meetings will resume on Wednesday 11 January.
