Environment and Conservation in Canada

As a Past President of our Rotaract Club she was involved in many Rotary events such as Mulled Wine on St Andrews Day over all her years as an undergraduate.  In her first year she attended our Christmas lunch and was then hooked into our Rotaract and Rotary Clubs.  She brought many friends into the Rotaract Club.  A popular lass!

One of the great advantages of virtual meetings is the ability to connect with speakers from far and wide, as was the case with Tea Pesheva. Tea was a student at St Andrews University and is a former President of the Rotaract Club here. Now living in Toronto, she is employed as a Provincial Liaison Officer at the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, where she is part of the Environment Protection Team.

Tea took us on a journey from her home in North Macedonia to study in Scotland. She showed us some beautiful pictures of her homeland. Tea was trying to decide which university she should apply to when she heard that Prince William had attended St Andrews, so that became her choice too. She stated that the best four years of her life were spent in St Andrews. She embraced all that student life had to offer and became very involved in the town with Rotaract.

Tea graduated in Environmental Studies, a subject that was always dear to her heart. She thanked the Rotary members who helped her to decide where she should study next. Canada became her next adventure and she obtained an MSc in Sustainability Management at the University of Toronto. She was very lucky to then get a position in Water Management in Toronto. She works in the Source Water Protection Unit, which investigates potential threats to municipal drinking water to prevent them happening. As a liaison officer she interacts with various public bodies to ascertain that they are all abiding by the rules to protect and provide safe drinking water for their citizens.

Members were interested to hear where Tea sees her long-term future and she said she would like at some time to return to North Macedonia to be involved in environmental issues there.
