The Rotary Club of St Andrews always ends the year with a special Christmas lunch for members and invited guests. This year, because of the pandemic, it had to be held on Zoom, with everyone supplying their own victuals! The meeting began with a display of photographs of members in Christmas attire. Sylvia Donaldson, dressed as Santa and holding a wonderful Teddy Bear, won first prize and there was a special one for Dennis Hopper for his homage to Dennis the Menace. The festivities continued with a mix of Christmas carols and party pieces. The musical accompaniment to the carols had been pre-recorded by the McGhie family, who featured on Pinboard two weeks ago. Frank Quinault read an extract from “A Christmas Carol”, Sylvia Donaldson recited “Tae a Virus” and Ann Baird delivered another topical poem entitled “Bubble Trouble”. The lunch normally ends with Ann leading the company in a rousing rendition of “The Twelve Days of Christmas”. Community singing not being possible, President Hamish Tait drew the proceedings to a close with a humorous version, once given to him by the late Peter Aretz; but not before thanking Colin Brown and Bill Whyte for organising the Rotary Club’s distribution of Christmas presents to some of our fellow St Andreans. The Best Christmas Jumper or other outfit Competition photo entries to President Hamish by Friday 11th December.
