The speaker at the Rotary Club of St Andrews’ Zoom meeting was Club member , David Scott . Natural, magnificent and fun to play. David , General Manager of Dumbarnie Golf Links, was describing to members how this latest addition to Scotland’s prestigious golf courses had come about. Identified by golf writer Malcolm Campbell as good links land, he and designer Clive Clark persuaded owner Lord Balneil of its potential. Ground was broken in 2018 and two years later it was in superb condition ready for Malcolm to strike the first shot. Covid-19 held back construction of the clubhouse severely. However, David’s supportive team organised temporary facilities. There was so much space that the first players found views were spectacular, ponds encouraged wild life and there was even a Nature Reserve. They found too that six holes play toward the sea, that views are enhanced by some 600 dunes and that the ball tends to feed into the green. One player was heard to remark the course could stage an Open now!
