Jerry Beaulier, an active member of St Andrews Rotary updated members on his latest project to provide Beach Wheel Chairs.
Launched at the Chariots of Fire Beach race last June, the charity now has eight fully functioning wheel chairs available for use on the West Sands.
The idea, came from a similar club in North Berwick and thanks to Jerry’s energy and enthusiasm, St Andrews has now become one of the leading lights in Scotland, in providing this great boon for disabled people.
Upwards of twenty organisations and individuals have contributed funding for the project, helping to purchase the chairs, which can be as much as £4k each. The charity is now working with other interested parties to help provide much needed disabled changing facilities in the West Sands area.
The new season of providing the wheel chairs gets going again in the Spring and all are looking forward to providing many more enjoyable beach days for disabled people this year.
In his VOT of thanks Jimmy McGregor, paid tribute to Jerry’s energy and enthusiasm, which members were very familiar with and which on this occasion had been put to great use in providing this wonderful service for disabled people.
Jerry and his committe launched this new venture at the Chariots of Fire beach run in 2018
Always an enthusiast, Jerry motivated others to make this happen.
