Families First

Wed, Aug 5th 2026 at 12:40 pm - 2:00 pm

Kathryn Henderson updated us on Family First activities, especially the Children's Day Out at Craigtoun Park supported by Rotary.

President Colin Brown welcomed guests then reported on the latest Council meeting which looked forward to the main fund-raising event of the year, the Dunhill raffle to be held in October; recent charity donations have been made to Sense Scotland, the Ring of Fire project, and Families First. The Guest Speaker was Kathryn Henderson who updated the Club on Family First activities. The Club has enjoyed a strong and long-standing relationship with this local charity  over the years. Kathryn first volunteered for the charity on 2019, became a Youth Worker, and is now Young People’s Co-ordinator. She works with a small team plus many supporting students and volunteers. Initially working with befriending, the charity has grown to give support to families and to young people in North East Fife. Befrienders offer one-to-one support, giving each child a chance to improve in confidence and well-being. There are youth groups, holiday activities, trips and outings. The charity also works with school pupils transitioning from primary to secondary which can be a stressful time for many. Funding relies on donors, supporters, funders and local community groups such as Rotary, described by Kathryn as ‘a great support’. The Club has given financial support for sessions with The Wave Project, Saints Sports Days, Family Days, trips to the pantomime, and especially, along with Kilrymont Club, the recent Family Fun Day at Craigtoun Park where 60 children and their families had a great day enjoying a magician, tractor and train rides, ice-cream. Kathryn thanked the Club for their support and ended with a favourite quotation from a participant: ‘Laughter is the best medicine you can ask for, and we certainly do plenty!’ Angus Mitchell thanked Kathryn for an excellent presentation.
