Annual awards

Members of the Club congratulated Bill Sutherland on his 91st birthday and Frank Quinault spoke about the presentation of the cheque for £14,000 raised by the Club and presented to CHAS at Rachel House. The recent re-enactment of the Pilgrims’ Way Walk saw Rotarians from across Fife joining together to walk, ending at St Andrews Cathedral, then refreshments at St Leonards School (a recent Corporate Member of the Club), and raising over £4,000 in aid of Fife Young Carers (FYC). After lunch the meeting saw the presentation of awards to four youngsters selected by FYC. Ian Hamilton introduced staff members Emily Hearn and Caitlin Honeyman, support workers for the under-eighteen, and the award-winners from among the many young carers in Fife: Charlotte Collins, Hannah Moriarty, Leo Robertson and Callum Christie. Currently there are 1,700 Young Carers registered in Fife who have responsibilities far in excess of their years, caring for family members with a variety of needs, giving selflessly and often foregoing social and educational time. As well as enjoying lunch the award winners received a certificate and a cash award for a special personalised treat in recognition of their devoted hard work and for putting service before self. Their commitment was warmly recognised by Club members.
