Wisbech Rotary Club has teamed up with Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service to fund smoke alarms for vulnerable adults living in Wisbech. The partnership sees fire service staff attempt to reach out to the most vulnerable people in the community to fit smoke alarms that have been paid for by the club. Both CFRS and Wisbech Rotary Club has the same goal to reach out and help those who are most vulnerable in the community and the scheme will enable fire service staff to also refer and sign post some residents they engage with to further access other services. Despite what some may think, the fire service is not allocated a budget by the Government to purchase smoke alarms, which cost about £6 each. Therefore with funding provided for these alarms by the Rotary Club, it enables CFRS to reallocate funding to other services for the vulnerable. This is the first scheme of its kind in Cambridgeshire and it is hoped Rotary Clubs in other parts of the county will follow suit. - See more at: http://www.cambsfire.gov.uk/rotary-smoke-alarms-1345.aspx#sthash.nRtaiSDU.dpuf
