Paul Harris Fellowship Rotary Awards

A Paul Harris Fellowship is an accolade that a Rotary Club can vote to present to a worthy individual within or outside the international Rotary organisation. 

It is named after one of the four Founding Fathers of Rotary and recognises extended effort and commitment in supporting the community, whether locally, nationally or internationally.

The recipient is presented with an elegant certificate and a special Rotary pin usually at a prominent event or public event.

Recent award winners have been :

Elizabeth Bellm - Liz has been involved in our monthly Girton Memory Cafe for its more than 8 years and organises the music, singing and performances with consistent enthusiasm and efficiency despite having to care for her husband John who has been developing dementia for the last 14 years. We recognised all her hard work at the Cafe Birthday Party 2018 and she was totally surprised and delighted by the award.

David Ellis - David amongst a lot of other projects has been the mastermind behind our major fund-raising effort for the last 10 years or more.  Each Christmas we work with Cambridge University who release three carparks in the Cambridge City Centre to us to offer extra parking to the public who are keen to shop or go to the theatre etc during the festive period.  He has to find 270 volunteers to staff the gates and his humourous and calm demeanor never fails to make it all work in the end. For 2021 we raised £33,000 which all goes to charities and projects locally, nationally and internationally.  We surprised David with his award at the lovely dinner where we passed much appreciated cheques to representatives of the many deserving organisations nominated this year.
