Sep 2018 Sister Francis on the effects of the TV Documentary

Mon, Sep 24th 2018 at 5:45 pm - 8:30 pm

How the Convent reacted. Speaker Host Burman, General Host/Cashier Zara.

Bad Habits, Holy Orders.

Today we had a very interesting topic and a very engaging speaker.

Sister Francis Ridler told us all about the challenging project that her convent was involved in - filmed for TV last year. They gave a temporary home to 5 'party' girls.  The effect on the girls and the convent were unexpected !

After an initial settling in period, when the girls found the basic rules and their loss of freedom quite a challenge, an affectionate bond developed between the hosts and their guests. The girls have mainly gone on to find jobs and a desire to help others.  They still keep in touch with the sisters and ask for advice.

The sisters have recognised a real need in the community for a source of care, attention and a listening ear and willingly respond to the many pleas for their help that were prompted by the programme.
