Nov 2017 Girton Memory Cafe - St Vincents Community Hall

Fri, Nov 3rd 2017 at 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

The Memory Cafe welcomes All. A warm welcome for people with dementia or other problems associated memory loss (and their families / carers). Our EIGHTIETH monthly event. Theme - Remembrance

Today we had a lovely sunny day and we had a full house.  Our special guest speaker, Sam Clift, reminded us all of the sounds and use of Morse Code in vital communications during the War - ships, troops, Telegrams and the Enigma Machine.

Our Entertainment Troupe dressed accordingly and we had 2 Nurses, a Fire Fighter, an ARP Warden and a housewife in pinny and headscarf.  Lots of war songs were enjoyed including the Quarter Masters Stores, Lilli Marlene and We'll Meet Again.

Michelle read the famous poem Flaunders Fields  and Wendy read a Vicky Original  - On being a little sister. Ann and Basil reminded us about all the things that have been invented since 1940, while Sian explained about the sepia photos of her parents that they had exchanged in 1942.
