Today we had the chance to have a very interesting tour of the University of Cambridge Vet School. It is a teaching hospital for vetinary students across the world. They take referrals from Vet Surgeries around the area and treat for the more complicated illnesses, injuries and cancers. Most patients are day visitors but a few do overnight in their special wards. Treatment is not just for mammals but birds and more exotic creatures too - surgery on a huge animal is just so much more difficult and varied than on mere humans.
The extensive buildings are full of unexpected equipment and valuable research. We have donated to this charity recently, and in the past, so we saw exactly how the money has been spent.
Meet Terry at 5.45pm in the Small Animal Reception - a glass and wood rotunda. Parking available (code from Terry as necessary).
We will be going on escorted tours in groups of 10 with knowledgeable staff members ready to answer any questions you might have - about 60 expected in total.
A Pub meal is an optional extra after the tour - expect to eat about 8pm (pre-book from the usual menu). Check with Terry.
The Old Crown in Girton is now booked - about 50 expected.
