a City of Cambridge Symphony Orchestra event.
April Fools Day - Sample Joke 1 : 'I decided to sell my hoover - all it was doing was gathering dust !'

This evening we had a treat for lovers of classical music, in a lovely setting with great acoustics !   AND we increased charity funding in the process by more than £1850 for the Samaritans in Cambridge !

The tickets were all sold out !  We had a full house on stage and in the audience !

Piano Concerto No. 2 by Prokofiev

and

Symphony No. 10 by Shostakovich

On April 1st   2017, the City of Cambridge Symphony Orchestra, in association with Rotary Cambridge South, will be presenting an exciting concert at the University Concert Hall, West Road at 7.30 p.m.

Two iconic Soviet works are offered, each legendary in its way:

Prokofiev (he of ‘Peter and the Wolf’) wrote his Piano Concerto No. 2 to show off his prowess as a pianist and sheer outrageousness as a composer. He succeeded on both counts. The work is regarded as one of the most difficult ever written. Many pianists daren’t tackle it. Chiyan Wong, described as ‘an exciting, original and thoughtful pianist’, visits Cambridge to wow us in this perilous work. Stand by for fireworks.

Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 10 is another monumental yet gripping masterpiece. Mysterious in some ways yet ‘heart on sleeve’ in others, it carries its audience forward on a hypnotic wave of sound.

This is a concert not to be missed.

Our Conductor was Robert Hodge with featured Pianist Chiyan Wong.
