Nov 2015 Dr Peter Dawe fb Club Council

Mon, Nov 9th 2015 at 5:45 pm - 8:00 pm

Speaker Dr Peter Dawe OBE - Anglia Ruskins Global Resource Observatory. Speaker Host - Mike Smith, Cashier - Sian Franklin, General Host - Ian Copeland.

Peter Dawe is a very successful lateral thinker and serial entrepreneur who has started and sold on over 80 companies in his career. He is author of the book 'The New Noah'.  Current projects also include Cambridge TV on Channel 8 - our newest TV channel.

Tonight Dr Peter Dawe will be talking to us about the development of Anglia Ruskin University's Global Resource Observatory - mapping the worlds resources in 40 years - he has given kickstart money to the project.

This is a far reaching project that aims to model the entire worlds 5 major driving forces in an attempt to predict disasters and highlight the frailty of the systems we all depend on - ie the Supply and Demand of  Food, Water, Energy, Demographics, Capital/Economics.  By getting big businesses interested in the results he hopes to influence governments to realise the consequences of their principle of the ever squeezing of resources that leaves no slack in the systems that have in the past been able to absorb unexpected events.

He strongly recommends that all households should keep a months supply of dried and tinned foods to ensure you are bufferred against such failures of our support systems as - electricity shortages (no good for freezers!) -  gaps in food deliveries (the other countries we rely on may have gaps in their deliveries as they respond to a local crisis at home) etc.

Food for thought !

Sian was awarded a bronze-level pin for her work with new members.

NOTE - Club Council met after the talk and meal - 8-10pm ish. - very productive !
