The Easter Memory Cafe was well attended and over 20 customers enjoyed the lovely sunny morning, refreshments and entertainment.This is the fourteenth event.
A Memory-Cafe is where there is a warm welcome for people with dementia or other problems associated memory loss (and their carers), who's new memories may be partial and confusing. The aim is to evoke old memories that are complete and comfortable through, for example, refreshments in china cups, photos and documents from past years, songs and poems and informal talks.
The Easter cafe in Girton was lucky to have a lovely sunny morning. Richard welcomed over 20 customers in to enjoy the delicious fresh cakes and biscuits, coffee and tea supplied and served by friends of the cafe and Members of the Inner Wheel.
The entertainment included a chat by Richard about his early experiences of work in a haberdashers, where the managers were called Sir and inventive practical jokes were common amongst the junior staff. Wendy and Basil sang some tuneful duets and everyone joined in classic songs such as Roll Out the Barrel, My Old man and Rock around the Clock - which Rosemary and Sian attempted to dance to!
A lively selection of poems included Golden Daffodils, Albert and the Lion and Sam, Pick up Tha' Musket - which was greeted with gales of laughter from everyone present.
The lovely Spring flowers were donated by the Graves Nursery, Girton.
The cafe is open 10 - 12am on the first Friday morning of each month.
The next cafe will be open on Friday 4 May 2012.
