President Colin welcomed distinguished guests to a celebration of the awarding of a Rotary Charter to Newmarket in 1955. All fourteen Rotarians attending the evening also welcomed Newmarket Town Mayor, Councillor Michael Jefferys, AG Lynda, Honorary Club Member PDG John King PHF, Rotary partners and friends.
In President Colin's opening remarks he reflected on how Newmarket men banded together to organise the establishment of a Rotary presence in the town to serve the community, using material from the club's archive.
The motto of Rotary is 'Service above Self' and President Colin was delighted to announce that two Rotarians present had gone above and beyond this standard. Rotarians Tony John Savill and Alan John Shand were presented with a Rotary Paul Harris Fellowship Award Certificate and pin.
President Colin then introduced comedy script wrtier Brad Ashton, who had us all in fits of laughter with his tip bits about well known comedians we all know and love.
