Sacrewell Mill
One of the main events of our year is the annual Kids Out trip. Local primary schools nominate children who they feel would benefit from an outing. They may have been having a tough time, been ill or not always had the chance to get away for a day. They are accompanied by members of staff from their school and Rotary March provides transport, admission costs to Sacrewell Mill and lunch as well as spending money. It is a great day and members of Rotary March also attend. Unfortunately we are not permitted to photograph their activities but it is an extremely worthwhile and rewarding experience. We thank all those who support our fundraising so that we are able to continue with this.
Thanks to the generosity of donors, Rotary March was able to hold a very successful Kid's Out day again this year. Funds raised by the annual Rotary Calendar ( supported by March Camera Club), the proceeds of the March Haloween House celebrations (run by Jo and Tommy Kelly) and a generous donation from Cambs Police Firearms Charity covered much of the cost. This was topped up by money from other Rotary March activities.
The children, accompanied by teachers and helpers, were joined by 7 rotarians. They had a wonderful day and some of the comments by the schools were:
"Thank you to Rotary March this is such a wonderful opportunity for the children - some of whom would not have had this chance".
"The children have really enjoyed themselves. The goats were a big success! We will definitely come back and visit in the future".
"An amazing day - loved the big slides -. Yummy lunch - we saw a peacock"!
"Lovely well organised trip". "Children throughly engaged and supported". "Children were extremely excited to meet and stroke the kids and piglets".
"They loved the chance to explore the farm".
"I enjoyed checking out the llamas - brilliant - I've never seen one before".
"My best bit was seeing the baby geese with their parents - they were so fluffy".
"The children have had the most amazing time and it has been wonderful to see them so happy and engaged".
"An amazing day out, so well organised. The children gain so much from this trip such as the opportunity to enjoy a farm trip, experience the animals and learn about them and farm life. The lunch was delicious and some children do not have the chance to enjoy trips like this at all as for many life is very tricky. The children enjoyed everything"
We have brought 19 children from our reception to Year 6. The children are unlikely to have been to a farm before and they were all really excited to see the animals.
They really enjoyed looking at nature, trees stream etc. Some of them were really nervous about coming as they had not been on a bus before."
