Donation to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI)
On Sunday 21 July a number of members of the Rotary Club of King’s Lynn visited the RNLI Lifeboat Station in Hunstanton and presented a cheque for £450 to Kate Craven, Visits Officer and Water Safety Lead. A few weeks earlier Kate and Jackie Merralls had given a most interesting talk to the Club.
There are nearly 40 volunteers at the Hunstanton RNLI station which deals with some 40 calls for assistance each year, the majority of which are from kite surfers. The station has both a lifeboat and a hovercraft, one of only seven used by the RNLI. It is important because of the shallow-water rescues the crews sometimes have to deal with. The RNLI celebrates its 200thanniversary this year. It currently has some 458 lifeboats in the fleet, 163 of which can be used in all weathers.
£200 of the £450 donated was raised by Immediate Past President, Mel Robson, the proceeds of a garden party held at her home in Downham Market.
