Community Cup 2024

Another great tournament at ITFC 

Fifty-six children from six junior schools in the Felixstowe area attended The Rotary Club of Felixstowe’s Community Cup Football Tournament, held at the ITFC all-weather pitch this Valentines Day (14th February).

Apart from the odd shower the tournament was played in dry conditions and on this romantic day, the country’s love of the game was played with high spirits, friendship and passion. Two boys volunteered, Jed Lawrence and George O’Donnell, from Felixstowe High School (both qualified referees) and took control of all the games superbly. They gained the children’s, teachers and spectators respect with the way they managed each match. The combination of Rotary, ITFC, the junior schools, Felixstowe High School and Bushfire photography, really shows how a community can pull together to make an event successful. 

The Youth Development team at the Rotary Club are proud of all that was achieved – thanks to all those that helped!  

Trimley turn the tables

The final was a rematch of the previous year with Colneis and Trimley St Martin battling it out for The Rotary Community Cup. Both teams easily won their groups, their semi and deserved their place in the final. It was an exciting game with Trimley St Martin going ahead at the start of the game. Colneis equalised a minute or so before the end of the game and then Trimley St Martin, with seconds to go, hit both the left and right post with two great successive shots. The match finished level at 1 – 1 which meant the game would be decided on penalties. Both schools should be proud of their teams and their courage in stepping up to take a penalty – no mean feat as we all know as a nation. Trimley St Martin eventually took the win, with a 5 – 4 victory.

It was tough to pick a player of the tournament, so we selected a runner up in Freddie Garnier-Maclean from Colneis and player of the tournament Archie Redbond from Trimley St Martin.

We have had great feedback from the day and are already looking forward to next year’s tournament:
