Pictured above: Marvin Dimon, Rutherford's TSFR project leader, with a batch of tools he collected
Rutherford launched a campaign, led by Rotarian Marvin Dimon, to find suitable tools donations for the charity Tools For Self Reliance (TFSR) at the beginning of December 2021, and had considerable success in encouraging donations from Rutherford members, and from external contacts and sources.
The donations we collected are passed to Mackays of Cambridge, they co-ordinate collections and arrange for tools to be forwarded to TFSR, based in Southampton. Here a team of volunteers clean, sharpen, and refurbish all tools which are then shipped to Africa,
Rutherford had earlier hosted Neil Mackay (himself a Rotarian at the Cambridge Club). Neil gave a talk informing us of how such tools are helping communities in Africa (Ghana, Malawi, Tanzania, Uganda, Sierra Leone, and Zambia) become more self sufficient by providing refurbished tools no longer required here. TSFR also provide on the spot vocational skills and business training along with the tools to get them started.
TSFR a very worthwhile charity that Rutherford is pleased to support.,
