A Year of Giving Back: Cambridge Rutherford Rotarians Raise More Than £28,000 for Good Causes
When people think of Rotary, they often think of friendship, fellowship and community. But behind every meeting, every event and every project is a simple ambition – to make life better for others.

Over the past twelve months, members of the Rotary Club of Cambridge Rutherford have turned that ambition into action, raising and donating more than £28,000 for charities and community organisations, while also giving countless hours of their time as volunteers.

A Record Golf Day
The club’s flagship fundraising event once again proved to be a tremendous success.
Held at the magnificent Gog Magog Golf Club, the annual charity golf day concluded with a celebratory dinner at Queens’ College, Cambridge (photo below), bringing together golfers, sponsors and supporters from across the region.

Thanks to their generosity, the event raised more than £15,000, with proceeds benefiting Arthur Rank Hospice Charity, East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) and East Anglian Air Ambulance.

The success of the day reflects not only the enthusiasm of everyone who took part, but also the remarkable support of local businesses, sponsors and volunteers who helped make the event possible.

Sharing Food, Building Community
Sometimes the simplest ideas make the biggest difference.
Throughout the year, club members opened their homes to host a series of informal lunches for friends and neighbours. These enjoyable gatherings combined good food with good company while raising over £5,000 for the Cambridge Food Bank.

The funds will help provide essential food and household supplies for local people facing financial hardship, demonstrating how community spirit can make a real difference close to home.

Cycling for Children in Need
Every year, members set themselves a physical challenge as well as a fundraising one.

This year’s sponsored cycle ride raised £2,500 for BBC Children in Need, with club members covering hundreds of miles to support disadvantaged children and young people across the UK.

The annual ride has become one of the highlights of the Rotary calendar, combining friendship, fitness and fundraising in equal measure.

Responding When Disaster Strikes
Rotary’s commitment extends well beyond the local community.

Following the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela, Cambridge Rutherford members funded and donated a ShelterBox, providing emergency shelter and essential supplies for families who had lost everything.

Working through Rotary’s global humanitarian network, the donation helped deliver practical assistance where it was needed most.

Giving Old Bicycles a New Purpose
Environmental sustainability and international development came together in another successful community project.

Working with local residents and volunteers, the club collected more than 100 unwanted bicycles for the charity Re-Cycle.

Rather than ending up in landfill, the bicycles will be refurbished and sent to communities in Africa, where they provide vital transport for children travelling to school, healthcare workers reaching remote villages and families accessing employment and markets.

More Than Fundraising
While these figures are impressive, they tell only part of the story.

Behind every pound raised are members giving their time, sharing their skills and working together to improve lives—whether that’s organising events, supporting local charities, responding to international emergencies or helping communities become more self-sufficient.

Cambridge Rutherford Rotary Club continues to demonstrate that ordinary people, working together, really can achieve extraordinary things.
