In 1974 the District Extension Officer, Past District Governor Arthur Holland, and his Deputy, Past District Governor Ewart Craig, approached the President of Thetford Rotary Club, David Cunningham, to discuss the possibility of forming a new club in the Thetford area. At this meeting Brandon was suggested and a sponsoring committee was formed. This consisted of Thetford Past Presidents Ellis Clarke, George Forrest and Peter Holmes. The latter was a resident and businessman of Brandon.
The first meeting of proposed members was held in January 1975 in the Headmaster's office at Breckland Middle School and consisted of Edward Curson (Headmaster), Cliff Vincent (Police Sergeant), Bernard Willett (Builder), Simon Gordon (Garage Proprietor), Cliff Flogdell (Tobacco Wholesaler), with DEO Ewart Craig and Peter Holmes.
This group began recruiting other business and professional men and two further meetings were held, firstly in the school staff room and then the parish hall. At that time, with some prospective members attending and subsequently declining, it was May before the required number (24) to form a club was reached. The new Club was subsequently inaugurated on the 22nd May 1975.
