Michael Gurney, High Sheriff 're-opens' Aylsham Paupers' Graveyard

Paupers’ Graveyard

The Paupers’ Graveyard that was once part of St Michael's Workhouse has been restored during the past couple of years and was formally reopened by Michael Gurney, the High Sheriff of Norfolk, on 16 March.  The area has been cleared, grassed and replanted to provide a tranquil place for visitors.  Aylsham in Bloom and Aylsham Town Council led the project, with support from the Royal Horticultural Society and several local groups.  In particular, several Rotarians helped with the restoration and the Aylsham Club has donated a bench so visitors can sit and enjoy the peace of this tucked away enclosure.
