Laptops for Home Learning Appeal
Some four weeks ago we launched an appeal to collect laptops and tablets for children in Aylsham schools who urgently needed access to technology for their home learning during lockdown. Little did we realise that the wonderful community spirit in this town and across Norfolk would result in over 150 being collected! Not only that but donations were made large and small which totalled over £3000. To date, we have been able to give out 105 devices to children from seven schools enabling access to school-based learning and online lessons. Schools have told us how important this has been to enable more of their pupils to stay in contact with the school and families tell how an extra computer has changed things so much for them.
Without the support of individuals and companies we would not have been able to help, so thanks to these community heroes!
Firstly, of course, the people, from near and far, who gave laptops and tablets new and not so new with such generosity.
Michael Chafer and Tomas Leigh of Aylsham Computers for clearing and upgrading laptops
Jon Sawyer-Stone for clearing and checking Ipads and tablets
Joshua Hannan at Ultimo Electronics Ltd for donating 20 laptops, upgrading laptops and providing more laptops very cheaply
Nick Tredwell at Monica Vinader Ltd for donating 23 laptops
Aylsham Picture House for donating £1000
Paul Nearny of Chimu Software Solutions who donated £200
Vik at Valucomputers Ltd who gave us 5 laptops with more to follow if needed
Paul Wilcox from Gasway in Norwich who gave 6 tablets
Tesco, Aylsham who provided free Bags for Life for safe distribution
The many individuals who donated amounts from £10 to £500 to ensure that we can pay any costs and continue the provision of laptops throughout this pandemic and beyond. Together they added about £2000 to the total raised.
From the Rotary Club of Aylsham and from the schools and pupils of Aylsham and district
THANK YOU!
