It’s been a whirlwind start to the year for Kinross & District Rotary! From international humanitarian missions to local culinary showdowns, we’ve been busy connecting with our community and the wider world. Here’s what we’ve been up to:
Global Impact: The Ethiopia Medical Project
We were humbled to welcome our own Jo Middlemiss, who shared the incredible journey of the Ethiopia Medical Project. Since 2013, Jo and her cousin Maureen have been transforming lives through annual missions. Even a bout of malaria couldn't stop Jo; she’s already back on the ground in Ethiopia. We are immensely proud to support her life-changing work.
Life Through a Different Lens: Guide Dogs Scotland
Did you know it costs £102,000 to support a guide dog from birth to retirement? West Fife coordinators Karen and Peter gave us a fascinating look into the world of visual impairment. We traded our sight for eye masks to try (and mostly fail!) to draw guide dogs, gaining a profound appreciation for the independence these four-legged heroes—and new AI technologies—provide.
Youth Excellence: Masterchefs in the Making
The heat was on as we hosted the Rotary District 1010 Young Chef Final! Talent from across the region converged on Kinross High School, and we are ecstatic to announce that our local star, Eilidh, secured a brilliant 3rd place. Keep an eye out for more youth competition results coming soon!
Tradition & Togetherness
After our "Scatter Weeks" (where we ventured out to visit neighbouring clubs for fresh inspiration), we returned home for a spirited Burns Supper. With haggis from the Kirklands Hotel and a "fascinating" Immortal Memory by George Sutherland, it was a night of great food and even better company.
